Eight thousand, seven hundred sixty. That’s how many hours there are in a year. A lot, right? A forty-hour full-time work schedule puts the average American to work for about a quarter of those hours.
To the relief of workers all over the country, federal law standardizes twelve days’ worth of hours as holidays. Let’s jump into the federal holidays of 2021 for the month of December.
Christmas Day
Celebrated worldwide, Christmas marks a holiday for countries all over the world. United States workers get to stay in on December 25 each year. To the disappointment of some, Christmas Day falls on a Saturday this year.
Companies that take weekends off can observe Christmas Day on Friday, December 24: Christmas’ Eve. Observance and compliance with federal holiday regulations can take place as such.
New Year’s Day
New Year’s Day falls on January 1. This year, however, the holiday falls once again on a Saturday. This occurrence thus warrants observance on the holiday’s eve on Friday, December 31.
TimeClick’s Holiday Schedule
TimeClick will close on both Fridays – December 24 and December 31 in observance of both federal holidays of Christmas and New Year’s.
We will still be present and available to provide the best service experience for our clients during regular business hours on the days outside of the national holidays.
What to do about holidays?
Notice we said federal law standardizes twelve days of holidays. Federal law does not require it. We refer to them as federal holidays because the government allows employees to take that time off.
As for you and your business, it’s ultimately up to you. Many companies choose also to observe federal holidays, closing business and allowing employees valuable time off.
You may wonder how to manage federal holidays in interaction with employee paid time off benefits. If you offer vacation, sick, and other paid time off to your employees, you may find difficulty in deciding how to manage and track these differences in holiday time.
Tracking can prove difficult since you would need to differentiate federal holidays from other forms of paid time off your employees may have. Remember – federal law does mandate accurate keeping and maintenance of employee time records.
The perfect tool may yet lie in reach. TimeClick can not only track PTO, it can allow you to differentiate and even create custom types of time for all of your detailed tracking needs.
