Install TimeClick on a Single Computer

General Instructions

TimeClick is a locally based software which means that all your data is stored on one of your computers, which we call the server. This computer needs to fit within the compatibility standards set here.

The following are instructions on installing TimeClick on a single computer:

  1. Download the server installer from our website.
  2. Run the installer.
  3. Click “next” through the whole installation.

TimeClick will then open automatically indicating that the installation was successful. For information about setting up your TimeClick please click here.

Common Questions About Single Computer Installations

How long does the installation on a single computer take?

TimeClick’s installations are usually pretty quick but the speed of the install depends on the speed of your internet and computer. If you’re installing only a TimeClick server on one computer, you can expect to spend anywhere between five and ten minutes on the install and beginning of the initial setup.

Do I have to use the TimeClick server installer even if I don’t have an official office server computer?

Yes. Even if you don’t have an official office server computer, you will still need to install the TimeClick server software on at least one computer because the TimeClick server software hosts the database that holds all the time clock info.

We often recommend installing the TimeClick server software on an official office server if you have one available to you because office servers are generally backed up frequently and on throughout the workday.

However, if you are using TimeClick on only one computer in your office, you are more than welcome to install the TimeClick server on whichever computer your employees will regularly use to clock in and out. Just be sure to back up the database regularly on either a shared network drive or flash drive.

I just downloaded the TimeClick Client installer but it’s saying that it needs an IP address. I only want TimeClick on one computer. What do I need to do?

If you are installing TimeClick on a single computer and have no plans to set up other TimeClick time clock workstations on your local network, you will only ever need the TimeClick server installer, not the TimeClick client.

The TimeClick client will ask for an IP address any time it doesn’t detect a TimeClick database on the same local network which will be the case if you never installed the TimeClick server software.

If you only installed the workstation/client, the next steps are:

  1. Uninstall the TimeClick client
  2. Install the TimeClick server from our website using the instructions above
  3. Set up TimeClick using the instructions above

This is because the TimeClick “server” computer is the only computer that houses the database. The workstation/client downloads do not carry any database with them. If you install the TimeClick workstation/client software without installing a TimeClick server first, that workstation will not be able to function or hold any information.

If I start out with a Single Computer license, can I upgrade to a multiple computer license?

Definitely. TimeClick is a very flexible, scalable computer time clock. If your business grows to the point that you need TimeClick on more computers, congrats!
