What isn’t supported anymore?
As of January 14, 2020, extended support for Windows 7 and Server 2008 is no longer available. This means there will no longer be security updates or support for computers with these versions. Your computer will still work with these versions, but it may be vulnerable to security risks that cannot be helped.
Mainstream support for Windows 8 ended on January 9, 2018. Extended support will be maintained until 2023.
What is the difference between mainstream and extended support?
When Microsoft is offering mainstream support, it means they are still taking care of that version by providing security updates. They release design changes and warranty claims. Extended support still provides bug fixes and patches, but new features are no longer added and complimentary support ends.
Why does Microsoft stop supporting certain versions?
Just as time goes on, so does technology. This is a good thing, because it means it is improving more and more each day. Older versions of Windows become outdated as new versions arrive, and advancements are made to enhance the speed and quality of everyone’s computers.
What does this mean for TimeClick?
The latest versions of TimeClick will still run on older versions of Windows, such as 7, 8, and Server 2008, but we recommend upgrading your windows version as soon as you can. We cannot support you on these versions if you run into a Windows error. We hope you will be excited to move forward with this change for a more convenient work day.
